Why To Look For

Warning Signs?

Many homes have structural problems because of the unique ground conditions found in New Orleans and South Louisiana. All good things start with a solid foundation. If the foundation is not stable, over time, things may begin to crumble. Your home is a huge investment and you want to keep it standing on solid ground. Here are some warning signs that will let you know that your home is in need of Orleans Shoring.

Warning Signs

While inspecting your home, look for these warning signs as they might be a sign of a structural problem:

  • Uneven or sloping floors
  • Cracks in exterior or interior brick
  • Cracks in drywall
  • Nails “popping” out of the sheetrock
  • Bowing Walls
  • Cracks in ceramic floors or walls
  • Door or window that doesn’t open or close
  • Spaces between wall and ceiling or floor
  • House is leaning

Slab Houses

Your foundation may need work if cracks appear in the slab. These cracks can be caused by shrinking of the soil underneath one section or the swelling in another area of the slab.

If you notice cracks in mortar and bricks, it is usually caused by the flexing of the slab. The mortar and bricks lose the grip between each other, an indication that your foundation may need to be repaired.

Pier Houses

You may observe a sloping or a bellying of the house between piers. The weatherboards could appear weary or be separating. Cracks or sloping in a patio and porch indicate problems that need to be observed.

Interior Warning Signs

When doors stick or have cracks at the corners of their frames, it is usually due to foundation problems.

Look for sloping/uneven floors, low spots or furniture sliding; this usually occurs because of slab or foundation movement.

If your walls appear to have wrinkles in the wallpaper, cracks in the Sheetrock or gaps between the walls and the molding, your house could have foundation problems.
